Late this morning, Hernando Deputies and Animal Enforcement Officers were called for help when two dogs were found locked in a hot car.
Investigators and Animal Enforcement responded to a parking lot near the First United Methodist Church located at Orange Avenue and Lemon Avenue in Brooksville regarding two dogs locked in a hot truck.
Upon arrival, the Animal Enforcement Officer measured the temperature inside truck as 110 F.
Officials say deputies forced entry into the truck to rescue the dogs, when the driver of the truck could not be located.
The dogs, a black chihuahua and a fawn mastiff, were both removed from the truck and taken to Hernando County Animal Services for evaluation by the veterinarian.
Later, the owner arrived to claim the dogs and was cited by Hernando County Animal Services for leaving the dogs unattended in the hot vehicle.
