Chinsegut Conservation Center hosts many fun wildlife education programs and hikes throughout the year. Visitors gain a wonderful experience connecting with biologists and wildlife experts to explore and become familiar with Florida’s unique and sensitive natural areas.
July 5th 10 AM UF/IFAS – This, Not That: Beautiful natives to replace problem plants. Participants will learn about invasive exotic plants; why they are harmful, and specific native plants which are better options. No registration required. Free program.
July 12th 10:00 AM Butterflies 101: This butterfly ID program for ages 10+ is ideal to get ready for helping us with our upcoming butterfly count August 24th. Learn butterfly families and take home some resourceful guides to help you differentiate the butterflies of Florida. Free program please register online or call (352) 754-6722. Program length 2 hours
July 13th 9 AM 3-D Archery: Archers should arrive by 9 AM to join us for this shoot. Course is 15 lanes with 3-D target variety. Sight in your bow on the range. Small fee applies to help us continue to maintain our equipment. Call (352) 754-6722 for more information, no registration required. Join Drawn by Grace archers for provided lunch following shoot. Allow 3-4 hours to participate fully.
July 20th 2:00 PM Children in the WILD, Pollinator Gardens: Ages 5-9 can register to attend this program on pollinators of Florida and get a head start attracting them home with plants provided during the program. Learn what pollinators like and begin your garden. Free program, please register online or by calling (352) 754-6722. Program length 1 hour
July 26th 6:30 PM Family Night: This evening event run by Not-A-Clue Adventures features an opportunity for families to explore archery, wildlife and more while sharing an outdoor dinner. The cost is 15$ per person, register through NotAClueAdventures.com. Event length 2.5 hours
July 27th 8:30 AM Walking Sticks: Walking sticks is a monthly hiking group that meets at various FWC managed sites in the area. This month’s hike will be located at Chassahowitzka Wildlife Management Area located off US 19 just north of Centralia Road. During the hike we will compare the land and plants we seen in January versus in June. We will meet at the main entrance off US 19 then drive as a group to hike location.
