Not happy with the proposed increases to your garbage collection rates? Here’s your opportunity to stand up and be heard.

There will be a public hearing on Tuesday, July 30, 2019 at 9 a.m. in the County Commission Chambers, located at 20 North Main Street, Room 160 in Brooksville.

Republic Services is asking for an annual increase to the Solid Waste Collection Assessment and non-universal area rates.

“The Solid Waste Assessment became effective January 1, 2019. This assessment provides curbside collection of trash, yard waste and recycling for residents in the universal area of Spring Hill (see map below). The assessment is paid by every single-family or multi-family (four or less) unit within the universal area and is collected on the ad valorem tax bill.

Non-universal area customers are billed directly from Republic Services monthly.”

The non-universal area encompasses all Republic Services customers in Hernando County that are not located in the universal area. Non-universal area customers are billed directly from Republic Services monthly.

Here’s what you need to know:

In accordance with their contract, Republic Services may request an annual increase based upon changes in the Consumer Price Index and the Oil Price Information Service. Republic Services has exercised this right and is requesting an annual increase.

This is what it’s going to cost:

“The existing annual single-family rate in the universal area is $172.80. The new annual single-family rate in the universal area that is requested is $176.40.”

That means that you’ll be paying $3.60 more per year if you live in the universal area. This increase will be added to your yearly tax bill.

“The existing monthly single-family rate in the non-universal area is $13.49. The new monthly single-family rate in the non-universal area that is requested is $13.78 monthly.”

That means you’ll be paying .29 cents more each month or $3.48 per year.

Affected property owners have the right to appear at the public hearing and to file written objections with the Board of County Commissioners. Written objections may be submitted via email to Administration@HernandoCounty.us or mailed/delivered to the following address:
