Visitors can enjoy a network of hiking trails, wonderful educational programs, and explore Florida’s largest contiguous tract of longleaf pines at this 408-acre preserve.

 If you’re looking for great summer classes check out Chinsegut Conservation Center. They have something for everyone to enjoy. 

Chinsegut is located 7 miles north of Brooksville. The campus covers 408 of the 850 acres comprising Chinsegut Wildlife and Environmental Area. It’s a beautiful site with many wonderful educational opportunities for the entire family. Check out the schedule and make plans!

August 2nd 10 AM UF/IFAS Florida Friendly Landscaping for Kids: This special program will include a book reveal and review of by author Kim Cotrell in cooperation with IFAS on Florida-Friendly Landscaping for kids. Bring the kids out to explore this draft publication and hear the presentation.

1 Hour Program

August 7th 10:30 AM Nature Explorers ages 5-7: This program for ages 5-7 is offered monthly through November, the first Wednesday of each month. If you would like to register a child, please be sure you can attend all dates, so others do not miss out on the opportunity. This class is limited to 20 children by advance registration only at (352) 754-6722. Each class last 1 hour and is free of cost. The topic for August is habitats and food webs. August 9th 10 AM Snakes of Florida: This is a one hour talk on the various snake species of Florida, how to identify venomous vs non-venomous and how to avoid encounters with snakes in your landscape. No need to register for this free program.

August 10th 9 AM 3-D Archery: Archers should arrive by 9 AM to join us for this shoot. Course is 15 lanes with 3-D target variety. Sight in your bow on the range. Small fee applies to help us continue to maintain our equipment. Call (352) 754-6722 for more information, no registration required. Join Drawn by Grace archers for provided lunch following shoot. Allow 3-4 hours to participate fully.

August 17th 2:00 PM Children in the WILD; Fire: Children ages 5-9 are invited to join us each month at Chinsegut for a program just for kids. Meet live animals, explore outdoors or create a craft. These guided one-hour programs are free of cost and feature new topics each month. The topic for August is fire. Register online at MyFWC.com or call (352) 754-6722.

August 24th 10 -12:30 Butterfly Count: Counting butterflies has a long history at Chinsegut. Visit August 24th to learn about common Florida butterflies, how to tell butterflies and caterpillars apart and help us count butterfly numbers and species at Chinsegut. Get a free butterfly guide to keep. Photographers encouraged, all information on species richness will be uploaded to Florida Nature Trackers. Info sessions from 10 – 11:30 count and tabulation from 12 – 12:30. All ages are welcome to participate.
