Amidst public outcry over poor service and continuing missed pick-ups the Hernando County Board of County Commissioners unanimously denied Republic Services their request for an annual rate increase in a 5-0 vote in the July 30 public.

In accordance with their contract, Republic Services requested an annual increase based upon changes in the Consumer Price Index and the Oil Price Information Service.

The increase was a bit over 2% averaging out to about $3.50 more per household per year between the universal and non-universal areas.

The request came at a time of great upheaval in Hernando County where residents have put their foot down regarding the poor customer service and missed pick-ups surrounding the no-bid award of the contract to Republic Services which did away with Waste Management.
