A 58-year-old man died when he suffered a medical emergency behind the wheel of his car early Monday afternoon, causing him to collide with three other vehicles, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Timothy Johns of Spring Hill was traveling east in the center lane of eastbound State Road 54, west of Black Road on Monday afternoon when he suffered a major medical episode.

Witnesses traveling in two separate vehicles heading east on the inside lane observed Johns weaving in between eastbound lanes on State Road 54 and suspected he was beginning to suffer from a medical episode. Both cars moved off the road and parked in the center median.

Johns vehicle veered off the road, traveling onto the center median and began slowly moving through the median where Johns vehicle struck them. One of the drivers suffered minor injuries.

The occupants in the two parked cars were trying to help Johns but his car kept moving hitting one of the cars and forcing it to hit another vehicle on the road.

Johns vehicle spun off the off the roadway through a ditch located north of State Road 54 where it struck a wooden utility pole and went through a barbed wire fence coming to rest in an open field.

Mr. Johns was pronounced deceased at Medical Center of Trinity at 12:59 p.m. on August 26, 2019.

Our hearts are with Timothy’s family and loved ones during this difficult time.
