A Brooksville man has been arrested and charged in a double shooting that took place in Brooksville’s Kennedy Park on September 2, 2019.

H’Keem Lavar Hart, 25, of Brooksville was located and arrested on September 6, 2019 at the Corrections-Probation and Parole Office on Cortez Boulevard in Brooksville.

Hart has been charged with Aggravated Battery w/Firearm (Warrant), Possession of Firearm by Convicted Felon (Warrant) and Violation of Probation.

During questioning, Hart denied any involvement in the shooting, say detectives.

“We have difficulty getting information in some communities, even on some of the most violent crimes.  First, we’d like to thank the people who came forward with suspect information and details regarding what happened.” Sheriff Al Nienhuis said.  “Secondly, holding these violent criminals accountable will likely prevent an innocent child from being killed by a stray bullet.”

In a previous media release it was reported that 911 operators received several calls regarding multiple people had been shot.

The Sheriff’s office further reported that when deputies arrived on scene they found a man with gunshot wounds. Hernando County Fire Rescue transported him to a local hospital. A woman, who had also been shot was taken to a local hospital in a personal vehicle. She was later transported to a trauma center for advanced care.

Both victims are recovering from their injuries.  One has been released from the hospital.  The other victim is still recovering in the hospital.

The Hernando County Sheriff’s Office has not released the names of the victim’s citing Marsy’s law.
