The Hernando County Public Library System (HCPLS) has joined the American Library Association (ALA) in celebrating Library Card sign-up month this September.

Featuring Disney’s Toy Story 4’s very own Woody, Buzz Lightyear, Jesse, Bo Beep and Forky, the Hernando County Public Library System joins the movie crew as well as other libraries across the nation and around the globe with a variety of happenings that the public is invited to join, including:

• Make Forky craft – FREE activity that’s fun for anyone who is a kid – or a kid-at-heart! No registration required, supplies and simple instructions provided. Inquire at your library’s front desk from September 2 – 30 at all HCPLS branches during library open hours.

• Gift baskets – Everyone who visits the library during the month to open a new library card will be entered in a raffle for a chance to win a gift basket filled with fun swag!

• Food drive for People Helping People – All library branches will have collection bins for “Weekend Blessings”, a program designed to feed preschool, elementary, and middle school children who have little or no food on the weekend. Visit https://docs.wixstatic.com/ugd/5e59b5_c3b92f5a7c3e4752b36b7b076e90cad1.pdf for a list of foods needed and help your community by bringing all you can from September 20 through October 3, 2019.

• Resumed story times – Mr. Justin will be back in full swing with his storytime schedule for our youngest readers! • #GetLibraryCarded – Snap a picture with your library card and post it to Instagram or Twitter with the hashtag #GetLibraryCarded. This contest is run by ALA and you’ll be automatically entered in a drawing to win a $100 Visa gift card!
